I thought I was a music fan (of certain types and genres), but I never heard this before. Holy cow, love! (Thanks to "sardine" at Eschaton for cluing me in.)
Isn't she something? I haven't heard a lot of her stuff, but I've heard, and seen, some of the stuff she does with John Prine, and once you've heard her, you can't really forget her.
I was familiar with her performance of this in the last episode of Northern Exposure, which pre-disposed me to her. Then this made me a fan for life. But I didn't know about the Transatlantic Sessions until half an hour ago.
This is very close to the center of the kind of folk music I like best. Her voice takes a little getting used to, but I get over that very shortly into this song. Extra credit that she can actually pronounce the word "Our" and doesn't say "R" as sloppier folkies do.
